Why Encinitas Kitchen Pros
A Kitchen Worth the Investment
With a median owner-occupied home value of $1,646,800, a kitchen in Encinitas is part of a serious asset. That cuts both ways: the finish level should suit the house, and the work behind the walls should be done so that nothing has to be opened up again.
California sets the floor for that work. The state requires a CSLB license for home-improvement work above $1,000, and a B-2 Residential Remodeling license cannot alter load-bearing walls. The energy code adds an HVI- or AHAM-certified range hood rated at 100 CFM or more and 3 sones or less, checked in the field by a HERS rater. We design to those rules from the first sketch instead of fixing them at inspection.
State Licensed
Look up our CSLB license before you sign. It is printed on every contract.
Permits Handled
We submit through the city’s online Customer Self Service portal and meet inspectors on site.
Current Code

Working in Encinitas
Permits, the Coast, and the Calendar
Building permits in town run through the City of Encinitas Building Division, with plan review and inspections handled for the city by InterWest. Applications go in through the city’s online Customer Self Service portal. When your kitchen plan changes wiring, plumbing, ventilation, or walls, we prepare the drawings, submit them, and book each inspection so you are not chasing the process.
Location adds one more question. The city notes that most of Encinitas lies inside the California Coastal Zone and holds Coastal Development Permit authority. Whether any coastal review applies depends on the specific project, so we confirm it with the city before we set a start date instead of guessing.
Weather is rarely the problem. Encinitas has a mild coastal climate with average highs around 72°F and only about 10 inches of rain a year, so kitchen work runs year-round. The bigger scheduling factor is cabinet and stone lead times, which we lock in before demolition.

Common Questions
Kitchen Remodeling Questions
Do I need a permit to remodel a kitchen in Encinitas?
Most remodels that change wiring, plumbing, ventilation, or walls need a building permit, and the work is checked against the 2025 California Building Standards Code, in effect since January 1, 2026. Encinitas permits go through the City of Encinitas Building Division. Cosmetic work like painting or new hardware generally does not. We confirm your project's needs before work begins.
Does a kitchen remodel need coastal review?
Not something to assume either way. The city notes that most of Encinitas lies inside the California Coastal Zone and it holds Coastal Development Permit authority. Which projects that affects depends on the scope, so we check with the city during planning and tell you what we learn.
What should the contract include?
Scope, materials, price, schedule, and every payment phase. California limits the deposit to a deposit of $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less, says a contractor may not collect payment for work not yet completed, and gives you three business days to cancel the contract, five for homeowners 65 and older. If a contract is missing those, ask why.
Can you take out the wall between the kitchen and living room?
Often, but it depends on what the wall carries. In California a B-2 Residential Remodeling license cannot alter load-bearing walls, so a bearing wall needs the right license class, an engineered beam where required, and a permit from the City of Encinitas Building Division. We check the wall at the consultation and tell you what it would take.
