Quartz, Granite, or Laminate
Quartz countertops are engineered, consistent in color, and do not need sealing; keep hot pans on a trivet. Granite countertops are natural stone with one-of-a-kind patterns, strong heat resistance, and occasional sealing. Laminate countertops are the most affordable and now come in convincing stone and wood looks.
Edge profile, thickness, and seam placement change the look as much as color. We show you where seams will fall and plan supports for any overhang where people will sit.
Sink choice comes with the counter. Undermount sinks need stone or solid surface; drop-in sinks work with laminate. A full-height backsplash behind the range is easy to clean and makes a strong visual statement.
Care is simple for all three. Wipe quartz and laminate with mild soap and water, reseal granite on the schedule the fabricator recommends, and use cutting boards and trivets on every surface. We leave written care instructions with you when the job is finished, along with any warranty paperwork from the manufacturer.

Before the Stone Goes Down
Stone is heavy and rigid. If the cabinets underneath are out of level or loose, the slab can crack. We check every base before templating, and if the boxes are not sound we recommend new cabinets first.
Changing counters alone rarely touches building systems, but moving a sink, adding island outlets, or changing a cooktop circuit does, and in California a B-2 Residential Remodeling license does not cover substantial changes to major plumbing or electrical systems. When a permit is needed, we submit to the City of Encinitas Building Division and build to the 2025 California Building Standards Code, in effect since January 1, 2026. Encinitas has a mild coastal climate with average highs around 72°F, which is easy on indoor materials. The bigger risk to a new counter is a poorly supported overhang or a skipped seal on granite, both of which we address during installation.
Plan the backsplash with the counter. A tile backsplash goes in after the counters are set, while a stone backsplash is usually cut from the same slabs. Deciding early keeps the colors matched and the schedule tight.

How long does countertop installation take?
Fabrication usually takes one to two weeks after templating, and installation often takes a day. If the plan changes plumbing or wiring, the City of Encinitas Building Division inspection happens before the counters go in.
What does countertop installation cost?
Material, size, edges, and cutouts set the price. You get a written estimate after measuring. California caps the deposit at a deposit of $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less, and a contractor may not collect payment for work not yet completed.
Can new counters go on my existing cabinets?
Yes, if the boxes are level and sound. We check them first. Putting stone on damaged cabinets is money wasted, and we will tell you if that is the case.
